I've experienced the same. The only way to get in is via guild/alliance I guess.

The few times I have tried to do a 12 man area with a pug we have failed epically! You should look to join a PvE guild that does elite areas.

Though Arky sounds like a old and disillusioned man when he says that, it is a fairly accurate summery.

I've seen many people around me who recently started playing GW and like it. If you started recently there is many content to do. The only issue may be the fact that it is harder to find PuGs in comparison to if you play it just after the release of a chapter. But still players are making new chars to there should always be some players to play a mission with.
The only problem is there for players who have been around for ages and did everything already. Sure, after x000 hours any game gets boring at some point. Just move on for some time, try WoW etc. No game can entertain you forever.

It was, it was also the same nerf that killed Turai farming.
Personally I think it's a shame that the area is more or less abandoned, I had many hours of fun in Urgoz with pugs (this was before HoM so i'm still missing the monument ), sure it's annoying when 1 player ruins a run because he won't listen but thats the charm of the game. After all a game is all about the fun of playing it and the relations you can make to other players around the world.

Even if nothing was nerfed many places suffer from "acute lack of incentive syndrome" = Alois. When it was new Urgoz had greed as a motivator, without it Urgoz has nothing. The chestupgrade revived it for a short period, but without longterm goals people forge about it. If it somehow yielded more Factionreward than HFFF at least some people might be compelled into grinding it, but aprart from that.....
As for people claiming GW was dead: You play games, you love them, later you dump them, it's the circle of life. Gaming would be a sad place if people only played one game for their entire life.

Well me and my guildies will still need to do Urgy once - we just did the Deep with heroes last weekend - so if anyone is interested in it - bug me.
I mean, we can stand around here and bitch or we can start teams and actually enable people to go there ...

I pugged Urgoz the weekend after the Ursan nerf, and finished it in 3 hours with a mish-mash party of mostly Germans. The European - German district was the only one having a significant number of people so my advise is to look there. (German districts are quite populous for many outposts, actually.)

Urgoz American districts have been livlier than usual over weekends. Mind you most of the teams there are guild/alliance teams. Some of those teams will allow pugs to come along if they can fill a spot they need, you may get lucky this way and join a good guild/alliance team. Just dont count on it.
We have done Urgoz a couple of times with mostly "anything goes" teams after latest PvE update clicky. It is true that there is no real incentive to do it any more. However; the fun of having a 12 man team just rolling thru a massive elite area like urgoz is really unmatched any where else in the game (even in the Deep), and makes it all worthwhile.
Most people who do urgoz now do it for the fun of it. Try to find yourself a good guild/alliance that does that.

Always found Urgoz was more fun to do than The Deep. I'm used to run with the cookie-cutter b/p builds, and I always thought it required more coordination and general skill/knowledge to finish it. Plus I love pulling it . It's still doable with heroes but I've always felt that elite missions are meant to play with other people and not with heroes; personal preference here. So I DO miss doing Urgoz.
Maybe I'll try to get a group going at some point...

Last pug through took me 3 hours, ended with 7 people (why is it the bad players never leave the group?) and my reward for enduring the torture that is a pug.
No thanks. This has to be the worst reward to effort ratio of any elite mission in the entire game.
Adding Faction to the game wouldn't work, to compare to or exceed HFFF you would need a reward greater then 50k faction but since you can only hold 10k you just wasted 40k faction.
Increasing the reward or adding more stuff is just a temporary fix.
If you don't have a Guild that does Urgoz I would suggest you just forget about it and that is really a shame, Urgoz was a truly challenging dungeon that allowed for a lot of variety in the meta builds.

areas like that arent really PUG-able anymore but we form alliance groups all the time for fun stuff like that. A good alliance is what you need

The problem with places like Urgoz when compared to to other Elite areas comes down to the numbers.
- 12 players (human or heroes). PUGs have enough trouble co-ordinating 8 slots, and the last thing you want is some random triggering every Thorn Wolf in the Warren. so yes, something of that scale gets organised in advance so people know what they're doing and what their rolls are
- Time. A reasonable run can take 2 or 3 hours (yeah I know it can be done faster)....but get it wrong (and I've gone through Urgoz when things have gone wrong) and you're looking at 4 or 5 hours.
Compare that to Slavers where you can do part for an hour or so then leave it and pick up on the quest chain later, and don't have to start right from the beginning again if things go pear shaped

Comparing something as classic and fun as Urgoz to that monstrosity called Slaver's Exile, that even my dog can finish with h/h is blasphemy!!

The greater shame is all the work that anet put into creating such beautiful areas as Urgoz, Deep, DoA, Jade Quary; and they are now dead.

They may be dead to pugs who seek nothing but reward, but for players in guilds who play for fun, areas such as Urgoz, Deep and DoA are far from dead, although Jade Quarry is dead unless you gather people to map.
